Groundhogvania - A Time Loop Prototype

Welcome to our game jam submission! This is a prototype exploring the "Loop" theme through a Groundhog Day-inspired platformer.

LEVEL PREVIEW MODE CONTROLS:

WASD = Move camera around the level

Space = Start the level

Use this to scout the level and plan your route!

GAMEPLAY CONTROLS:

A/D = Move left and right

Space = Jump (double jump available!)

Shift = Dash

HOW THE LOOP WORKS: Every time you die, run out of time, or pick up an item, the day resets and you're back in preview mode. Your goal is to beat the level in as few days as possible.

POWER UPS:

• Health Extension (Heart) - Permanently increases your maximum HP
• Time Extension (Clock) - Permanently adds more time to your countdown timer
• Double Jump (Winged Boots) - Permanently unlocks double jump ability
• Dash (Purple Boots) - Permanently unlocks the dash ability
• Tasty Fish - Level Complete! You've found the ultimate prize!

PROTOTYPE STATUS: We ran out of time to create a full level! What you're playing is our prototype level showcasing the core loop mechanics. After spending most of our time coding the timer system, day counter, level preview, and game mechanics, we found ourselves with no time left for level design.

This was also the first time using Godot for 1 out of 2 team members, so there was definitely a learning curve we had to overcome!

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Functional time loop mechanics

Level preview system

Day counter tracking your attempts

Basic platforming with jump and dash

A "Level Complete" system (though you'll have to imagine the actual level!)

Despite the time crunch, we're proud of the core systems we built and hope you can see the potential in our time loop concept. We hope you enjoy exploring our prototype!
